At the start of Promise, Van mentions the possibility of Tantras being open to Van touching his mind, which implies he's a Mindspeaker. (Magic's Pawn also makes it clear that he mindspeaks with his companion, Delian). FWIW fanon consistently has it that he's a minor Empath, because fanon, but I'm not seeing any canon evidence of this rn, so take it or leave it.
