Valdemar Discussion Post!
This is the official Dead Vanyel Party discussion post!
Whether it's your first read or your millionth, there's always something worth talking about--and rambling at length about at that. Confide in your fellow Lackey fans--who's your fave? What books do you eat up with a spoon? Does Vanyel end up as a gay Companion after the Mage Storms books? Or is he reborn as the very subtle baby herald "Vanel"? If so, does that make Stef his life-bonded companion "Tylenol", or what? And is Ma'ar REALLY dead? (No!)
Life's little questions, and we all want to talk about them.
Anon and unanon are currently allowed on this post. As of August 9, only anon posting will be allowed, in order to foster an anonny sense of anonymousness, in the vein of everyone's favorite meme ;P. The exception to the anon-only rule is the Introduction Thread, where you can introduce yourself and meet fellow players.
If you're looking for "Research Materials", join the comm and visit this post. (Subtle, right?)
Re: Introduce Yourself! (holy shit so late to this party)
Favorite Valdemar Book: LHM and By The Sword
Most hated Valdemar book:It's kind of a toss up between the Owl Series and Foundation. The Owl series is just fucking boring, but Mags is a judgmental ass, sorry not everyone can have as shitty a childhood as you, please get over yourself, thanks bye.
Age of first exposure to Lackey: Fifteen or sixteen, and, lol, I started with the Owl books. Thankfully I was a voracious reader and did not care so much about quality as long as I got to read something NEW.
Favorite Valdemar protagonist and villain: Vanyel and Kerowyn obv. I distinctly remember reading Pawn in the school cafeteria, and getting to the part of Van's inner monologue about not being ready for a physical relationship with a girl, and thinking 'oh good, because that's sinful' looooool. I NEEDED THIS BOOK IN MY LIFE SO HARD and even then it took until my mid twenties to finally admit to myself I'm gay. Kerowyn, though. It just occurred to me one day that she is pretty much everything I could ever want in a female warrior type character in a fantasy novel. Strong, competent, smart, and she actually DEMONSTRATES those qualities instead of the text just saying she is, SHE CHOOSES HER CAREER OVER LOVE, she doesn't live in a sterilized fantasy world that doesn't discriminate against women ever. She is just 100% badass and I love her. Idgaf about any of the villains, when it comes to Valdemar the conflicts I am into are the internal ones.
Least favorite: Mags, who seriously needs to get the fuck over himself. We get it, you were abandoned and basically sold into slavery, and living in Haven is a big adjustment and everything. STOP JUDGING EVERYONE BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T SUFFERED AS MUCH AS YOU. I also really hate Karal. Like, there are sues and there are SUES. I prefer my sues superpowered, beautiful and tortured, thank you very much, not modest and self effacing.
